India’s growth depends on how effectively it mobilises its population, yet women — half the country — remain underutilised, contributing about 18% to the GDP. Expanding women’s participation as industry leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs can boost India’s GDP and raise household per capita income.
As the country is rapidly progressing to become a developed nation, industries need to boost women participation in workforce, boardrooms, and key management positions so that growth has a far-reaching impact in our society. India being a consumption-driven economy, women participation in workshops will boost the resilience of Indian economy.
With supportive policies on workplace safety, maternity benefits, work-life balance, career growth, and skill development, women’s participation is increasing in different sectors, from manufacturing and technology to infrastructure and transport. The logistics industry is gradually witnessing this positive shift.
To strengthen this progress, the sector must continue to take proactive steps to eliminate systemic hurdles and gender biases, ensuring participation of women at every level.
Over the past decade, the industry has been expanding at a brisk pace. With the rise of e-commerce and quick commerce, the logistics industry is becoming organised and a plethora of career opportunities are coming up in the industry for women professionals.
Digitisation and technology deployment in various segments of supply chain operations, including warehousing, fleet management, and last-mile delivery are making various roles accessible for women professionals. Inclusive hiring in these areas address talent shortages, while improving operational efficiency and ESG metrics.
Women representation needs to be encouraged at the leadership level. Women bring different but complementary leadership styles. Women leaders often contribute empathy, collaborative decision-making, and people-centric management. Together, this balance stabilises organisations, improves workplace culture, and enhances problem-solving. A balanced leadership equation leads to sustainable business outcomes and stronger governance — critical for complex supply chain operations.
